Updated April 21, 2026. A full rundown of the current ride closures, reopening dates, and construction news across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.
There is a lot happening across both parks right now. Two rides are reopening this week, several more are heading into closures, one attraction has been almost completely disassembled, and the Avengers Infinity Defense construction is showing signs of serious progress. Here is everything you need to know before your visit.
What’s Happening At a Glance
Reopening This Week
Toy Story Midway Mania — Reopening April 23
Toy Story Midway Mania in Disney California Adventure is back open on Thursday, April 23 after a relatively short closure. The brief duration suggests this was a technical refurbishment focused on projectors and lighting systems rather than any guest-facing changes. Do not expect new game screens or content tied to Toy Story 5 — this appears to be maintenance rather than an update. That said, the attraction should be running smoothly when it reopens.
Jungle Cruise — Reopening April 23
Jungle Cruise in Disneyland Park also returns on April 23. Construction walls are still visible in parts of the queue, and work on some exterior elements was still underway as of this week, but the ride itself is set to welcome guests back Thursday. Expect some residual construction activity nearby in the days following the reopening.
Current Closures With No Return Date
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters — Extended Closure
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland is closed with scrim and full scaffold covering the exterior — a significant sign this is more than routine maintenance. Scrim and scaffold typically indicate an extensive exterior repaint rather than a quick touch-up, and the construction walls up around the attraction signal guests should not expect a fast return.
What is happening inside the attraction is unknown. The timing is interesting — Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World recently completed a substantial Buzz Lightyear upgrade that included new ride vehicle guns and updated targets. Whether Disneyland’s closure is related to any interior improvements is unconfirmed, but the coincidence has caught attention. At minimum, the exterior is getting a significant overhaul. Watch the paint color when the scrim comes down — the Tomorrowland concept art visible at the land entrance features bronze and gold tones rather than the current blue and white, which has some observers hoping for a visual refresh that could hint at longer-term Tomorrowland redevelopment.
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind — Major Mechanical Issues
This is the most significant operational story in DCA right now. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, which had already missed multiple return dates, has now been almost completely disassembled. The gondolas are gone. The entire rig has been taken apart. Only the central spine column remains standing.
There is currently no return date on the Disneyland calendar. Reassembly, testing, and safety certification of an attraction this complex will take weeks at minimum, potentially months. If you were planning your visit around this ride, remove it from your itinerary for the foreseeable future.
Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin — No Return Date
Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin in Mickey’s ToonTown remains closed with no confirmed reopening date. The queue entrance has been converted to temporary stroller parking in the meantime. When the ride does reopen, an accessibility improvement is expected — the fake tires on the exit wall are reportedly being removed to create easier wheelchair and ECV exit access. An April return is still possible but not confirmed by the park calendar as of this writing.
Disneyland Monorail — No Return Date
The Disneyland Monorail remains closed. Work on the exposed track surface has been observed and appears to be nearing completion on that specific element, but no reopening date has been announced.
Upcoming Closures
Silly Symphony Swings — Closing April 27
Silly Symphony Swings in Disney California Adventure is scheduled to close on April 27, one week from now. No details yet on the scope or duration of this closure.
Pirates of the Caribbean — Closing May 4
Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland Park closes for refurbishment on May 4. No reopening date has been announced. This is one of the park’s most beloved attractions so plan accordingly if you have a visit booked in May or beyond.
Blue Bayou Restaurant — Closing May 4, Reopening May 20
Connected to the Pirates of the Caribbean closure, Blue Bayou Restaurant — the atmospheric dinner-on-the-bayou experience inside the ride building — also closes May 4 and is expected to reopen around May 20. The closure window is approximately two weeks. If you have a Blue Bayou reservation in that window, you will need to rebook. Cafe Orleans and the Monte Cristo sandwich at Royal Street Veranda remain your New Orleans Square dining options during this period.
Construction Updates
Avengers Infinity Defense — HVAC Being Installed, Drywall Arriving
The Avengers Infinity Defense ride construction in Avengers Campus is showing meaningful progress. HVAC units — the large white boxes visible on the rooftop of the attraction building — are being installed, and drywall deliveries have been spotted on site. These are significant milestones. HVAC installation and drywall typically indicate a project is moving from structural construction toward interior finishing, which brings a ride opening meaningfully closer. No official opening date has been announced but the pace of construction is encouraging for anyone watching this project closely.
Pixar Palround / New Disneyland Resort Expansion — Foundation Prep Underway
The major expansion site along Disneyland Drive and Katella Avenue is showing accelerated progress. Landscaping — grass, bushes, and trees — has already gone in along portions of Disneyland Drive, which signals that the boundary of the expansion footprint is now set in those areas. Concrete pathways are expected to follow. PVC pipe has been spotted being delivered to the site, likely for below-grade utility work ahead of foundation pouring. Construction vehicles and workers are increasingly active on the site.
Carnation Cafe — Exterior Work Nearly Complete
The Main Street USA Carnation Cafe exterior refurbishment is nearly done. Scrim and scaffold have come down from the main facade, revealing fresh paint and updated window trim. The outdoor awning and curved canopy are still being worked on, but the main visual work is complete. Notably, the original 1955 Carnation Company sign is still in place rather than the newer Carnation Cafe branding — it is possible the classic sign is being retained permanently. Carnation Cafe remains open throughout with limited outdoor seating.
The rest of Main Street USA storefronts are still receiving paint and polish treatment, with scaffold visible along the upper facades. Refreshment Corner has now joined the Main Street refurbishment effort.
What This Means for Your Visit

- Toy Story Midway Mania and Jungle Cruise are back April 23
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is closed with no return date — skip Tomorrowland planning around this ride
- Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is effectively out of service for the foreseeable future
- Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin remains closed — no confirmed date
- Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Bayou both close May 4 — plan New Orleans Square dining and ride strategy accordingly
