lightning lane 2026

The skip-the-line system has changed again in 2026. Here’s exactly how it works and whether it’s worth your money.

If you’ve visited Disneyland before, the Lightning Lane system may look familiar — but 2026 brought meaningful changes that affect both strategy and cost. This guide covers everything from the basics to advanced tips so you can decide which pass is right for your group and get the most out of every dollar you spend.

What Is Lightning Lane at Disneyland?

Lightning Lane is Disneyland’s paid skip-the-line system, replacing the old free FastPass system. Lightning Lane is the term for what used to be called the FastPass line — shorter lines for rides that require special access. It’s how you skip the line at Disneyland. And it costs money.

There are three tiers of Lightning Lane passes available in 2026:

  1. Lightning Lane Multi Pass — access to most Lightning Lane attractions
  2. Lightning Lane Single Pass — one ride on a top headliner
  3. Lightning Lane Premier Pass — one-time entry to every Lightning Lane attraction in both parks

⚠️ Major 2026 Change: Hotel Guests Now Get a Free Lightning Lane

The biggest change to Lightning Lane in 2026 is that Early Theme Park Entry has been replaced with a complimentary Lightning Lane Multi Pass entry per guest per Disneyland Resort hotel stay.

This means guests at the Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, and Pixar Place Hotel no longer get early park access — instead they receive a free Lightning Lane perk upon check-in. This is extra and does not replace the option to purchase Multi Pass for your entire length of stay.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass: How It Works

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a paid service that lets you enter the Lightning Lane at participating attractions once per ride per day. Every ride still offers a regular standby queue and some offer a Single Rider line at no extra charge. When you buy Multi Pass, all of your PhotoPass photos are included.

Price: The price starts at $34 per person per day. The cost varies based on date and can be higher if you wait to purchase until the day of your visit.

How to book: Open the Disneyland app and tap the menu. Then select “Lightning Lane Passes” to get started. Lightning Lane Multi Pass can also be purchased in advance as a ticket add-on when buying park tickets.

The booking rules:

  • You can only book one ride at a time
  • You cannot book the next one until you’ve scanned into the first, or two hours after booking your last one — whichever comes first
  • You can only ride each attraction once per day using Multi Pass
  • At Disneyland you must have entered the park to book your first attraction — you cannot book before you enter

Pro tip: The number one tip for using Lightning Lane — enter the park early and book something right away. Even if you change your mind about that attraction, you can modify it to something else in that park without resetting the 2-hour clock.

Lightning Lane Single Pass: The Headliner Option

Single Pass gives you one-time access to a single top attraction — currently Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the main Single Pass attraction at Disneyland Park.

Single Pass attractions are not included in Multi Pass. These are pay-per-ride Lightning Lanes that you can purchase once per day. Rise of the Resistance usually ranges from $15 to $35 per person depending on the day and expected crowds.

Is it worth it? If Rise of the Resistance is a must-do for your group and you don’t want to rope drop it, Single Pass is worth it on busy days. On slower days the standby line can be manageable without it.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass: The All-In Option

Premier Pass gives you one-time entry to each available Lightning Lane attraction in both Disneyland Resort theme parks for one day. It includes the most in-demand attractions and photo perks including select digital photo downloads.

The key advantage of Premier Pass is flexibility — you can enjoy attractions at your leisure that day with no need to schedule arrival windows. No return times, no clock watching, just show up whenever you want.

Premier Pass is best for: Guests who want zero stress, families with limited time at the park, or anyone who values flexibility over saving money.

Purchase timing: Lightning Lane Premier Passes can be purchased via the Disneyland app up to 7 days in advance of your park visit, starting at 7:00 AM Pacific Time — subject to very limited quantities. Book early — these sell out.

Lightning Lane Strategy: How to Get the Most Out of It

Book the moment you enter the park

Once you’re in the park — especially if you’re there at park opening — book your first Lightning Lane for the closest return time immediately. Early time slots for the best rides go quickly.

Book your next Lightning Lane while waiting in line

After you scan in at the Lightning Lane entrance, you can make your next selection immediately. Always book your next Lightning Lane while you are still in line waiting for your current ride. This maximizes your total rides per day.

Modify instead of cancel

If you can’t make a return time, modify it to a later window rather than letting it expire. If you’re running late, modify your pick and time — if the park isn’t crowded you might find all the return times seem too early, in which case grab something that makes the most sense and modify it later.

Don’t waste Lightning Lane on short standby lines

Don’t make the mistake of returning to a Lightning Lane when the standby line is a walk-on — it’s a waste. Check wait times on the app before using your Lightning Lane and save it for when lines are genuinely long.

Use Single Rider lines as a free alternative

If a ride has a Single Rider line and everyone in your group who wants to ride is eligible, consider that as a good backup to Lightning Lanes — they can save you a ton of time if used right.

Which Disneyland Rides Have Lightning Lane?

Lightning Lane Single Pass (paid separately):

  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Lightning Lane Multi Pass attractions at Disneyland Park include:

  • Haunted Mansion
  • Indiana Jones Adventure
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds
  • Space Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Star Wars: Millennium Falcon — Smugglers Run
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
  • And more — check the Disneyland app for the full current list as availability changes

Important: Pirates of the Caribbean returned to a standby-only queue on July 1, 2025 and no longer offers Lightning Lane.

Is Lightning Lane Worth It?

Honest answer — it depends on your group and the day.

We recommend using Lightning Lanes on most park days, especially if you’re trying to cover a lot or have limited time. That said, if your focus is more on the nostalgic side — Fantasyland dark rides or attractions for young kids — you can often skip it. Many of those rides don’t even offer Lightning Lane access.

Skip Lightning Lane if:

  • You’re visiting on a low crowd day
  • Your must-do rides are mostly classic Fantasyland attractions
  • You’re visiting multiple days and can spread out headliners

Buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass if:

  • It’s a busy day or weekend
  • You have one day only and want to maximize rides
  • You have kids who want to do Rise of the Resistance and the major headliners

Common Lightning Lane Mistakes to Avoid

  • Not booking immediately when you enter — early return times disappear fast
  • Letting a reservation expire — if you miss your window without canceling, you lose that booking
  • Buying Premier Pass when Multi Pass is enough — for most families Multi Pass delivers excellent value at a lower price point
  • Ignoring the standby line — on slower days many Lightning Lane attractions have short waits anyway
