Genie+ was replaced and renamed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland. Disney’s official wording is that the Disney Genie+ service was renamed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Individual Lightning Lane became Lightning Lane Single Pass, and Lightning Lane Premier Pass was added later as another option.
The rename took effect July 24, 2024, per Disney and travel coverage. planDisney later confirmed Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass, with no functional difference at the time of the rename. As of Saturday, September 5, 2026, always double-check details on Disneyland.com Lightning Lane and in the Disneyland app before you buy.
Is Genie+ the same as Lightning Lane?
Yes, for the product most people mean: Genie+ is the same paid service Disney now sells as Lightning Lane Multi Pass. You are not looking at a brand-new queue system under a different brand. You are looking at a rename plus later product additions.
“Lightning Lane” is also the broader family name. Multi Pass, Single Pass, and Premier Pass are the three paid options guests usually compare today.
Genie+ to Lightning Lane rename table
Use this table when older blogs, forums, or screenshots still say Genie+.
| Old name | New name | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Genie+ | Lightning Lane Multi Pass | Paid same-day return times for a set of attractions |
| Individual Lightning Lane | Lightning Lane Single Pass | Paid one-attraction Lightning Lane (sold separately) |
| (did not exist under Genie+ branding) | Lightning Lane Premier Pass | Newer all-in Lightning Lane option with limited daily quantity |
Premier Pass did not exist under the Genie+ branding. It is the newer limited-quantity, all-in Lightning Lane option. Per our complete guide, Premier can be bookable in advance (up to 7 days at 7am PT) and inventory is limited.
What is Lightning Lane Multi Pass?
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the paid add-on that lets you book return windows for eligible attractions instead of waiting in the full standby line. At rename, Disney said the redemption and queue experience otherwise stayed the same.
Pricing varies by date. As of our Disneyland Lightning Lane Complete Guide 2026, Multi Pass starts from about $34 per person per day and moves with demand. Do not treat that as a live quote. Check the Disneyland app for your dates.

Free Disney Genie vs paid Genie+ / Multi Pass
This mix-up still trips people up. Free Disney Genie is the planning tool in the app. It can suggest itineraries and tip you toward shorter waits.
Paid Genie+ (now Lightning Lane Multi Pass) is the product that actually grants Lightning Lane return times. Free tips are not the same thing as a paid pass.
Disneyland vs Walt Disney World differences that confuse people
A lot of “Genie+” advice online is really Walt Disney World advice. The rename happened at both resorts, but day-of rules still feel different.
You must enter the park at Disneyland before booking Multi Pass return times
At Disneyland Resort, planDisney guidance matches what we publish in our guide: scan in and enter the park before purchasing day-of Multi Pass in the Disneyland app and booking your first attraction return. Walt Disney World generally allows more advance Lightning Lane selection relative to park entry. Confirm your resort’s current window in the official app for your visit date.
One Multi Pass purchase can cover both Disneyland parks the same day
At Disneyland Resort, one Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase is commonly treated as covering both parks the same day (Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure), which is a big difference from Walt Disney World, where Multi Pass is typically sold per park. Park hopping still requires the right ticket/entitlement. If your ticket is single-park only, treat park access as unverified for hop planning until you confirm in the app.
Single Pass and Premier are separate decisions
Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly Individual Lightning Lane) is sold per attraction. As of our Lightning Lane guide, Rise of the Resistance is the current Single Pass example guests ask about most. Offerings can change, so verify in-app.
Premier Pass is the limited all-in option. It is not a Genie+ rename. It is a later product layered onto the Lightning Lane brand.
Do I need to rebuy if I bought Genie+?
No. Guests who already bought Genie+ for dates around the rename did not need a second purchase for the same product. Disney rolled the Genie+ name into Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
If you are buying today, search for Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass, or Premier Pass in the Disneyland app. Old Genie+ menu labels should not be your shopping target anymore.
