Updated April 2026 — A month-by-month guide to crowd levels at Disneyland Resort in 2026, including the best and worst weeks, what drives crowds, and how to use this information to plan your visit.

Picking the right dates can completely change your Disneyland experience. The same park on a slow Tuesday in January and a packed Saturday in spring break week feels like two different places. This guide breaks down every month in 2026 so you can see when to go, when to avoid, and what’s driving crowds at specific times of year.

The Simple Version — Best and Worst Times in 2026

Best times to visit (lowest crowds):

  • Mid-January through early February (after New Year’s crowds clear)
  • Late April through early May (after spring break, before summer)
  • The week of July 4th (counterintuitively one of the slowest weeks of summer)
  • Mid-August through early September (after peak summer, before Halloween ramp-up)
  • Mid-September through early October (kids back in school, Halloween Time just starting)
  • First two weeks of December (holiday decorations up, peak crowds not yet arrived)

Worst times to visit (highest crowds):

  • Spring break — mid-March through early April
  • Memorial Day weekend
  • Late June through mid-July (peak summer)
  • Thanksgiving week
  • Christmas week through New Year’s Eve
  • Three-day holiday weekends year-round

2026-Specific Factors That Affect Crowds

A few things are unique to 2026 that don’t show up in historical crowd data:

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration ends August 9, 2026. The anniversary has been drawing extra visitors throughout 2025 and into 2026. The weeks leading up to August 9 may see elevated crowds from people wanting to catch the celebration before it ends. After August 9, some of the anniversary entertainment pauses or ends entirely.

Soarin’ Across America debuts July 2, 2026. The new version of Soarin’ Over California launches at Disney California Adventure just before the Fourth of July weekend. New attractions always drive extra visits — expect elevated interest in DCA specifically around that date.

A new Explore Key tier was added to Magic Key passes in 2026. This added 39 more valid days in June and July for a new tier of annual passholders who were previously blocked during those months. More annual passholders with access in summer means higher baseline crowds during what used to be slightly more manageable early summer dates.

California resident ticket deals have been aggressive in 2026. Disney has sold a record number of discounted resident tickets valid through May 21, 2026. The last few weeks before that expiration date — late April through May 21 — may see higher-than-normal crowds as locals rush to use tickets before they expire. After May 21, that pressure lifts.

Month by Month — Disneyland Crowd Levels 2026

January

Early January (Jan 1-5): Very crowded. New Year’s crowds don’t vanish on January 1 the way they used to. The parks stay packed through the first weekend of the year as families finish holiday travel.

Mid to late January (Jan 6-31): Low crowds. One of the best months to visit. Schools are back in session, holiday season is over, and most families have used up their vacation time. Weekdays in mid-to-late January are among the lowest-crowd days of the entire year. Wait times for popular rides can drop to 15-20 minutes. The trade-off is that some attractions may be closed for refurbishment — check the Disneyland app before your visit.

Weather: Cool and occasionally rainy. Highs in the low 60s°F. Bring layers and a light rain jacket.

February

Most of February: Low to moderate crowds. Generally a good month to visit. Schools are in session and travel is lighter than spring or summer. Weekdays are particularly calm.

Presidents Day weekend (mid-February): Avoid. A consistent crowd spike every year. The three-day weekend brings families from across California and beyond. Avoid the Friday through Monday of Presidents Day weekend if possible.

Weather: Similar to January. Cool, sometimes rainy. Not typical theme park weather but the park is beautiful with smaller crowds.

March

Early March: Moderate. Manageable crowds before spring break hits.

Mid-March through late March: High crowds. Spring break season begins. Different school districts have staggered breaks but the cumulative effect makes late March one of the busiest periods of the year outside of summer and Christmas week. Easter Sunday falls April 5 in 2026, which pushes spring break crowds later — expect the highest spring break crowds in the last week of March through early April.

Weather: Warming up. Highs in the mid-60s to low 70s°F. One of the more pleasant weather months to visit if you can handle the crowds.

April

Early April (through Easter, April 5): High crowds. Easter weekend is one of the busiest days of the year. The parks are packed and all entertainment runs at full capacity. If you’re visiting Easter weekend, arrive at rope drop and use Lightning Lane aggressively.

Mid to late April (April 6-30): Low to moderate crowds. After Easter the crowds drop quickly. Late April is one of the best windows of the spring. The California resident ticket deal also expires May 21 — late April misses the expiration rush entirely. Dapper Day Spring Outing (unofficial event) typically falls in mid-to-late April and brings a fashionable crowd but doesn’t significantly impact wait times.

Weather: Warm and pleasant. Highs in the low-to-mid 70s°F. One of the nicest weather windows of the year.

May

Early to mid-May (May 1-21): Low to moderate. A good time to visit. Spring break is over, summer hasn’t started, and weather is excellent. One of the better-kept secrets on the Disneyland calendar.

Late May — California resident ticket expiration (through May 21): Watch for crowd spike. The last few days before the resident ticket deal expires may bring higher-than-usual local crowds. After May 21 that pressure releases.

Memorial Day weekend (late May): Avoid. One of the busiest weekends of the year. The unofficial start of summer brings massive crowds. Avoid the Friday through Monday of Memorial Day if possible.

Weather: Warm and sunny. Highs in the mid-70s°F. Excellent theme park weather.

June

Most of June: High crowds. School gets out across California in mid-June, launching summer season. Crowds build steadily through the month. The new Explore Key tier adds more local passholders to the mix this year, raising the baseline compared to recent years.

Best strategy in June: Rope drop, Lightning Lane, and avoid mid-afternoon. Early mornings and late evenings are your best windows.

Weather: Warm to hot. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s°F. Anaheim can get June Gloom — morning clouds that burn off by afternoon.

July

Week of July 4 (roughly July 1-7): Counterintuitively manageable. This sounds wrong but it’s been confirmed across three consecutive years — the Fourth of July week is one of the slowest weeks of summer at Disneyland. Magic Key blockouts, higher single-day ticket prices on the holiday itself, and families assuming it’s packed all drive people away. This year, Soarin’ Across America debuts July 2, which may bring more visitors than usual — but the overall pattern of lower-than-expected crowds around the holiday has been consistent. Worth considering if your dates are flexible.

Mid-to-late July: High crowds. Peak summer. Crowds spike from mid-July through early August. Wait times for major attractions routinely hit 60-90 minutes by mid-morning. This is when Lightning Lane Multi Pass becomes most valuable.

Weather: Hot. Highs in the low-to-mid 80s°F. Stay hydrated, take indoor breaks mid-afternoon, and use the shaded queue areas to your advantage.

August

Early August (through Aug 9): Still crowded. The 70th Anniversary Celebration ends August 9 — expect some elevated attendance from guests wanting to catch it before it closes. Peak summer crowds continue.

Oogie Boogie Bash begins August 18. The Halloween party starts in DCA on August 18. On Bash nights, DCA closes to regular guests earlier in the evening — good for Disneyland Park, slightly disruptive for DCA daytime visitors who need to exit by the early evening cutoff.

Mid-to-late August: Crowds start dropping. As August progresses, families return home before school starts. By the third and fourth weeks of August, crowds are noticeably lighter than peak July. This window — roughly August 15-31 — is one of the most underrated times of the year. Summer weather, summer hours, but without the worst crowd pressure.

Weather: Hot. Highs in the mid-80s°F. The hottest month of the year at Disneyland. Take breaks, use indoor attractions in the afternoon, and bring sunscreen.

September

Most of September: Low to moderate crowds. One of the best months of the year. Schools are back in session across the country, summer travel is over, and the parks are noticeably calmer. Halloween Time is in full swing with decorations, Oogie Boogie Bash nights, and the seasonal entertainment — you get the full fall experience without summer-level crowds.

Labor Day weekend (early September): Avoid. The last hurrah of summer brings a brief crowd spike over Labor Day weekend. Get in before or after.

Weather: Warm and pleasant. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s°F. Some of the best weather of the year.

October

Most of October: Moderate crowds. Halloween Time runs through Halloween with nightly Oogie Boogie Bash parties in DCA. Weekdays are manageable. Weekends, particularly in mid-to-late October, get busier as Halloween approaches and families want to experience the seasonal events.

Halloween weekend (Oct 30-31): Crowded. The park is packed for the final Oogie Boogie Bash nights and the general Halloween atmosphere. Expect full park crowds on October 31 specifically.

Weather: Warm and dry. Highs in the mid-70s°F. Excellent weather for a park visit.

November

Early November (Nov 1-17): Low crowds. After Halloween ends and before Holiday Time begins — this is one of the quietest windows of the year. The decorations are down, the holiday entertainment hasn’t started, and the parks are calm. If you don’t care about seasonal events, this is a great time to visit with minimal waits.

Veterans Day (November 11): Slightly busier. A modest crowd bump on the federal holiday.

Holiday Time begins around November 18. Decorations go up and holiday entertainment launches — fireworks return every night, it’s a small world Holiday opens, and the festive atmosphere kicks in fully.

Thanksgiving week (late November): Very crowded. One of the busiest weeks of the entire year. The full holiday week from the Monday before Thanksgiving through the Sunday after is consistently packed. If you’re visiting during Thanksgiving week, rope drop every single day and plan around the crowds rather than against them.

Weather: Cool and pleasant. Highs in the mid-60s°F. Light jacket weather in the evenings.

December

Early December (Dec 1-15): Moderate. Holiday decorations are fully up and the seasonal entertainment is running, but the peak Christmas crowds haven’t arrived yet. This is the sweet spot for holiday Disneyland — you get the full Christmas experience without the most intense crowds. One of the most recommended times of year among regular Disneyland visitors.

Candlelight Processional (first weekend of December): Slightly busier. This beloved event draws extra guests to New Orleans Square for the weekend.

Mid-to-late December (Dec 16-31): Very crowded. Crowds build steadily as school lets out across the country. By December 23, the parks are at near-maximum capacity. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are among the most crowded days of the year. New Year’s Eve is the single most crowded day of the entire year — see our complete New Year’s Eve guide for how to handle it.

Weather: Cool. Highs in the low-to-mid 60s°F. The park looks magical in the cooler weather and the holiday lighting is spectacular after dark.

What Drives Crowds at Disneyland — The Key Factors

School calendars. This is the single biggest driver. When schools are in session, parks are calmer. When schools are out — spring break, summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas — parks are packed. This is why mid-January, late April, and mid-September are consistently the best times to visit.

Magic Key blockout dates. Magic Key annual passholders are blocked out on the busiest days — New Year’s, major holidays, peak summer weekends. On blockout days, the crowd mix shifts almost entirely to out-of-town guests on single-day tickets. This doesn’t make those days less crowded — it just means the crowd is different.

Ticket deals and promotions. When Disney offers discount tickets — California resident deals, kids’ tickets, military discounts — the dates those deals expire see crowd spikes as people rush to use them. In 2026, the California resident deal expires May 21 and the kids’ summer ticket deal expires September 7. Crowds may be elevated in the days just before each expiration.

Special events. Oogie Boogie Bash, Disneyland After Dark events, Grad Nite, and other ticketed events close DCA or Disneyland earlier on event nights. On those days, regular park guests need to exit by a certain time. These dates aren’t necessarily more crowded during the day, but they affect your evening plans.

Day of the week. Weekdays are almost always less crowded than weekends. Tuesday through Thursday are consistently the best days. Sunday is typically less crowded than Saturday. Monday can be busy as visitors arrive to start a multi-day trip.

Anaheim Convention Center events. Large conventions in Anaheim bring thousands of attendees who often visit Disneyland after their conference day. Check the Anaheim Convention Center calendar before your visit — a major convention running the same week can elevate crowd levels unexpectedly.

Best Days of the Week to Visit

Day Typical Crowd Level Notes
Tuesday Low Consistently the best day of the week
Wednesday Low Very similar to Tuesday
Thursday Low to moderate Slightly busier as weekend approaches
Monday Moderate Busy as multi-day visitors arrive
Sunday Moderate Less crowded than Saturday
Friday Moderate to high Weekend crowds begin arriving
Saturday High Busiest day of the week year-round

How to Use This Information

Crowd calendars are a starting point, not a guarantee. Disney’s attendance patterns have become less predictable in recent years — surprise ticket deals, last-minute event announcements, and shifting school calendars can all change what a given week looks like compared to historical averages.

The most reliable approach is to combine crowd calendar data with a few other strategies:

  • Check the Disneyland app for current wait times before your visit to get a real-time read on what’s happening
  • Arrive at rope drop regardless of crowd level — the first 90 minutes are almost always the most efficient of the day
  • Use Lightning Lane on busy days — it makes more difference on high-crowd days than any other single strategy
  • Visit mid-week when possible — even in peak season, Tuesday and Wednesday are noticeably calmer than Saturday
