Quick answer: December 2026 is peak holiday season at Disneyland. Holidays at the Disneyland Resort runs November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027, so every December date gets the decorations, “A Christmas Fantasy Parade,” “it’s a small world” Holiday, Haunted Mansion Holiday and World of Color – Season of Light with a regular ticket and park reservation. Santa’s Toontown meet ends December 24. One-day tickets run $104–$224, and the hotel 20% offer stops at December 18. For the lowest crowds and prices, go December 1–12.

Is December a good time to visit Disneyland?
Yes, if holiday atmosphere is the point of your trip. Every December date falls inside the official Holidays season, so you never “miss” the decorations by picking the wrong week. The trade-off is cost and crowds, which climb steadily through the month and peak between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
The split is simple. Early December (roughly the 1st through the 12th) is the version we’d book: the full holiday lineup, school in session, and the Disney hotel offer still valid. From about December 19, schools let out, ticket tiers rise, the hotel discount is gone, and Santa’s park meet ends on Christmas Eve. Our Disneyland crowd calendar and best day of the week guide help narrow the exact dates.
What’s included with a December ticket
A valid ticket and a theme park reservation for the same park and date cover all of this:
- The 60-foot Main Street tree and Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, lit nightly with “Wintertime Enchantment.”
- “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” and the “Believe… in Holiday Magic” fireworks (fireworks are weather-dependent).
- “it’s a small world” Holiday and Haunted Mansion Holiday, both running all month. See the small world overlay timeline.
- Santa at Mickey’s Toontown Trolley Barn through December 24, and Santa’s Holiday Visit at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in California Adventure.
- World of Color – Season of Light, Festival of Holidays entertainment and Disney Viva Navidad at California Adventure.
- Snowfall on Main Street, small world and the Rivers of America; Downtown Disney has its own nightly snowfall with no ticket needed.
What costs extra in December
| Add-on | Dates | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| Holiday character dining (Goofy’s Kitchen, Storytellers Cafe) | Through Jan 3 | Yes, if you book early |
| Plaza Inn “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” dining package | Holiday season | Only if reserved parade viewing matters |
| Festival of Holidays Sip and Savor Pass | Holiday season | Only if you’d buy several items anyway |
| World of Color dessert party (holiday menu) | Details TBA | For special occasions |
| Chip and Dale’s Ornament Trail map (Downtown Disney) | Through Jan 6 | Cheap keepsake activity |
| Lightning Lane Multi Pass | Daily | Yes on Dec 19–31 dates |
Reservations for holiday character dining opened October 1, so December availability is already thin. Read our holiday dining reservations guide, the Storytellers Cafe review and the Plaza Inn guide before you pay for a package.
December 2026 week by week
| Dates | Crowds | Price pressure | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dec 1–6 | Moderate (heavier on the weekend) | Lower tiers on weekdays | Best value week of the season |
| Dec 7–12 | Moderate, building | Mid tiers | Still a strong pick |
| Dec 13–18 | Busy | Higher tiers | Last nights for the hotel 20% offer |
| Dec 19–24 | Very busy | Top tiers | Santa ends Dec 24; buy Multi Pass |
| Dec 25–31 | Peak of the year | Top tiers | Only if those are your only dates |
Crowd levels are our planning estimates based on school breaks and Disney’s tier pricing, not an official forecast. Disney sets the tier for each date on its ticket calendar.
Which week should you pick?
Pick early December if…
- You want the holiday lineup at the lowest price of the season.
- You can travel on weekdays and pull kids from school for a day or two.
- You want the Disney hotel offer (3+ nights, stays through Dec 18).
Pick Christmas week if…
- School breaks leave you no choice.
- You budget for top-tier tickets and Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
- You can arrive before park opening and take a midday hotel break.
Skip December if…
- You mostly care about rides and short waits; try the best time to visit instead.
- You only want decorations; mid-November weekdays deliver them for less.

What hasn’t Disney announced for December?
- Candlelight Processional dates and narrators. Don’t rely on last year’s calendar; we’ll update our Candlelight Processional page when Disney posts them.
- New Year’s Eve hours and any special ticketing. See our New Year’s Eve at Disneyland guide for planning.
- December park hours and the nightly parade and fireworks schedule. Disney loads these closer to the date.
- The Holiday Time guided tour price for 2026 (the 2025 tour was $120 per person plus tax, admission not included).
- Whether Indiana Jones Adventure will be back. It is closed with no reopening date; check our refurbishment schedule.
Ride closures change weekly. Check Disneyland ride closures before you lock in a must-do list.
December tips that actually help
- Book park reservations and dining as soon as your dates are set; December weekends fill first.
- Arrive 45–60 minutes before opening on Dec 19–31 dates.
- Watch the parade from Main Street on a second showing if one is scheduled, when curbs are less packed.
- Ride “it’s a small world” Holiday early or late; midday lines are long.
- Families with little ones: pair Toontown Santa with our Disneyland with toddlers tips.
- Pack layers. Anaheim December nights are cool, especially at World of Color.
December weather and what to wear
Southern California winters are mild compared with most of the country, but December days are short and evenings get chilly once the sun goes down. Expect comfortable daytime walking weather on most days, cooler mornings at rope drop and the occasional rainy day.
Dress in layers: a T-shirt or long-sleeve top for the afternoon, plus a warm hoodie or light jacket for the parade, fireworks and World of Color. Bring a compact rain poncho and comfortable closed-toe shoes, and check the forecast the week of your trip.
