The Best Rides at Disney California Adventure — Ranked

1. Radiator Springs Racers

Location: Cars Land | Height: 40 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Single Rider: Yes

The best ride at DCA and arguably the best ride at the entire Disneyland Resort. Radiator Springs Racers combines a lengthy, beautifully themed dark ride through the world of Pixar’s Cars with a genuine 40 mph outdoor race against a competing vehicle. The Cars Land setting — red rock formations, neon-lit town, and extraordinary attention to detail — makes this one of the most immersive theme park experiences anywhere.

The ride cost over $200 million to build and you can feel every dollar of it. The animatronics are excellent, the outdoor race is genuinely exciting, and the winner is randomly selected each time so there’s no gaming the result.

Wait time reality: Routinely 60-90 minutes by 10am. Rope drop is the only reliable standby strategy. Single rider cuts it to 15-30 minutes. Lightning Lane should be booked here first if you’re not using single rider.

Best for: Everyone. This is a non-negotiable must-do at DCA for all ages and thrill tolerance levels.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT!

Location: Avengers Campus | Height: 40 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A drop tower ride with a twist — the drop sequence is randomized, so every ride is genuinely different. The pre-show featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy is legitimately funny, with Rocket Raccoon plotting to free his teammates from the Collector’s fortress. Then the tower launches, drops, and surprises you in a different sequence each time.

It reaches about 39 mph during the drops. Not as fast as Incredicoaster but the unpredictability makes it feel more intense. The Guardians soundtrack — which also changes with each ride cycle — makes it one of the most replayable attractions at the resort.

Best for: Adults, teens, and anyone who can handle sudden drops. The randomized experience rewards repeat rides.

3. Incredicoaster

Location: Pixar Pier | Height: 48 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Single Rider: Yes

The fastest ride at Disneyland Resort at 55 mph, the tallest coaster at any Disney park worldwide at 122 feet, and the only coaster at the resort with a full inversion. The magnetic launch system takes you from 0 to 55 mph in about 4 seconds — a genuinely physical sensation that’s different from any other ride at the resort.

The Incredibles theme works well. Jack-Jack appears 19 times throughout the ride in different superpower forms — spotting all of them across multiple rides is a genuine challenge. The Michael Giacchino score composed specifically for the ride is one of the best soundtracks on any Disney coaster.

Wait time reality: Single rider line is excellent here — often 15-20 minutes versus 45-60 minute standby.

Best for: Thrill seekers, coaster fans, anyone 48 inches and up who wants the most intense ride at the resort.

4. Soarin’ Over California

Location: Grizzly Peak | Height: 40 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A simulated hang gliding experience over stunning California landscapes — your feet dangle as the screen wraps around you and wind, scents, and motion effects create a genuinely immersive experience. No drops, no inversions, no sudden movements. Just a beautiful, peaceful glide over the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite, the vineyards of Napa, and more.

2026 update: Soarin’ Over California is being replaced by Soarin’ Across America starting July 2, 2026, celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States with new American landscapes. If you want to see the California version, visit before July 2.

Best for: Everyone — genuinely one of the few attractions that works for every age group and thrill tolerance. Excellent for guests who won’t ride coasters.

5. Toy Story Midway Mania

Location: Pixar Pier | Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A 4D shooting game ride where you and a partner compete through a series of Toy Story-themed carnival game scenes. No height requirement, accessible to all ages, and genuinely competitive — families go back for multiple rides trying to beat their scores. The 3D targets are reactive and the point system is well-balanced enough that kids and adults feel equally engaged.

It’s not a thrill ride but it’s one of the highest-repeat-value attractions at DCA. Kids love it and adults get weirdly competitive about scores. A reliable crowd-pleaser for groups with mixed ages and interests.

Best for: Families with kids of all ages. Great filler between bigger rides.

6. WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure

Location: Avengers Campus | Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

An interactive ride where you shoot webs using hand gestures tracked by motion-sensing technology — no physical controller needed. You’re helping Spider-Man capture rogue Spider-Bots across multiple scenes, scoring points based on accuracy and timing. The gesture controls feel genuinely magical the first time you realize your hands are the weapon.

Like Toy Story Midway Mania, it’s a score-based ride with high replay value. No height requirement makes it accessible to young children. Marvel fans and competitive families both get a lot out of it.

Best for: Marvel fans, families with young kids, anyone who wants interactive entertainment without physical intensity.

7. Grizzly River Run

Location: Grizzly Peak | Height: 42 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Single Rider: Yes

A circular raft ride through Grizzly Peak with a 22-foot drop. You will get wet. Potentially very wet. The circular raft spins unpredictably so where you sit doesn’t guarantee staying dry — some rides soak everyone equally and others spare certain seats. On hot Anaheim days it’s a feature, not a bug.

Bring a poncho or embrace it. Single rider available. Best ridden mid-afternoon when you want to cool down and don’t mind getting wet.

Best for: Hot days, guests who don’t mind getting soaked, families with older kids looking for water ride thrills.

8. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree

Location: Cars Land | Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A spinner ride themed to Mater from Cars — baby tractors tow your trailer through a series of whipping turns to a country music soundtrack featuring Mater himself. It looks basic but consistently ranks as one of the most enjoyable light rides at DCA among families with young children. The turns are more dramatic than they appear from the outside and the Mater audio is genuinely funny.

No height requirement makes it ideal for the youngest guests. Short enough at about 2 minutes that kids want to ride multiple times.

Best for: Families with toddlers and young children. One of the best no-height-requirement options in Cars Land.

9. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

Location: Cars Land | Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

Dancing vehicles that move to Italian music inspired by different regions of Italy. The vehicles move independently without a fixed track, creating a genuinely unpredictable and chaotic ride experience. Each vehicle has a slightly different dance style based on where in Italy Luigi’s family comes from.

Not a thrill ride by any measure but the no-height-requirement and unique vehicle movement make it worthwhile for families with very young children in Cars Land.

Best for: Toddlers and young children. Adults will enjoy it once but probably won’t seek it out.

10. Goofy’s Sky School

Location: Paradise Gardens Park | Height: 42 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A wild mouse coaster with sharp, jerky turns and sudden drops. It’s rough — genuinely rough — and not for guests who don’t enjoy that style of ride. Wild mouse coasters by nature prioritize unpredictable lateral movement over smooth speed, and Goofy’s Sky School leans into this fully. Some people love it for exactly that reason. Others find it uncomfortable.

It’s not one of DCA’s standout attractions but it’s the only traditional coaster-style ride in Paradise Gardens Park and worth knowing about if you’re exploring that area.

Best for: Guests who enjoy rough, unpredictable coasters. Not recommended for anyone with back or neck sensitivities.

11. Pixar Pal-A-Round

Location: Pixar Pier | Height: None (swinging) / None (non-swinging) | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A giant Ferris wheel with two gondola options — fixed gondolas that stay still, or swinging gondolas that slide back and forth on tracks as the wheel turns. The non-swinging version is a relaxed observation ride with great views of Pixar Pier. The swinging gondolas are considerably more intense than they look from the ground and have surprised many guests who thought they were choosing a gentle option.

The views of the park and surrounding Anaheim area are genuinely beautiful, especially at sunset. Best ridden for the views rather than the thrill.

Best for: Views and photos. Choose non-swinging if you’re not prepared for the motion of the swinging gondolas.

12. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind

Location: Pixar Pier | Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

A spinning hot air balloon-style ride themed to Inside Out. Gentle spinning, no height requirement, and the Inside Out theming is well-executed. Not a destination ride but a good option for very young children or anyone needing a break between bigger attractions.

Best for: Toddlers and young children who are fans of Inside Out.

Rides to Know About — Current Status

Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue: Open as of April 2026. Disney has filed demolition permits for the building and the ride is scheduled to close in 2027 to make way for the new Avatar-themed land. Ride it while you can.

Soarin’ Over California: Open through July 1, 2026. Replaced by Soarin’ Across America starting July 2, 2026.

The Little Mermaid — Ariel’s Undersea Adventure: Permanently closed in early 2026 to make room for Avengers Campus expansion.

Avengers Campus walkway between Cars Land and Avengers Campus: Closed through potentially summer 2026 for expansion construction.

DCA Ride Strategy — How to Plan Your Day

Rope drop Radiator Springs Racers. Walk directly to Cars Land when DCA opens. Do not stop for anything. RSR goes from walk-on at opening to 60+ minute waits by 10am. This is the single most important move at DCA.

Use single rider at RSR and Incredicoaster. Both have excellent single rider lines. If your group doesn’t mind riding separately, you can experience both flagship rides with minimal waits using single rider.

Book Lightning Lane for Guardians after your RSR rope drop. Open the app immediately after entering the ride at RSR and book your first Lightning Lane return time for Guardians or Incredicoaster.

Save Grizzly River Run for a hot afternoon. Getting wet mid-morning on a cool day is less enjoyable than cooling off during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Watch World of Color Happiness! in the evening. The nighttime water show at Paradise Bay is one of the best nighttime spectaculars at the resort and a perfect way to end a DCA day. See our guide to the World of Color Dessert Party for guaranteed reserved seating.
