What’s Coming to Disneyland in 2026

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Timeline Expansion — April 29, 2026

The biggest change coming to Disneyland in 2026. Starting April 29, Galaxy’s Edge expands its storyline to include the era of the Galactic Civil War alongside the existing Age of the Resistance setting. New permanent character meet and greets will include Darth Vader, Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker in their respective areas of the land. Music from the original trilogy including the iconic Main Title theme, the Force Theme, and the Cantina Band are being added throughout the land. Changes are currently exclusive to Disneyland — Disney’s Hollywood Studios version remains unchanged.

Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration — May 16, 2026

Disneyland turns 70 on July 17, 2026, with celebrations beginning May 16. Special entertainment, merchandise, and limited-time experiences are planned throughout the summer. The celebration is expected to run through summer 2026.

Walt Disney — A Magical Life (New Attraction)

A new attraction celebrating Walt Disney himself opened in 2025, featuring the first-ever audio-animatronic of Walt Disney. Located on Main Street, this is a must-see for Disney history fans — and rarely has a significant wait.

How to Check Current Disneyland Refurbishments Before Your Visit

Refurbishment dates change constantly — Disney announces new closures on short notice and reopening dates often shift. Here’s the best way to stay current:

  1. Official Disneyland closures page: View the Official Closure Calendar from Disney — updated when Disney makes official announcements
  2. Disneyland app: The most real-time source. Any attraction scheduled to be closed during your visit will show as unavailable when you search for it. Check within 2 weeks of your visit for the most accurate picture.
  3. Check again 48 hours before your trip: Last-minute closures do happen. A quick app check the day before or morning of your visit confirms what’s actually operating.

Tips for Visiting During Refurbishments

January through March is peak refurbishment season. Disney takes advantage of the slower post-holiday period to perform the most maintenance. If a must-do ride is on your list and your dates are flexible, avoid January-March or verify status early.

Refurbishments often mean shorter waits on everything else. When a major ride like Jungle Cruise or Pirates of the Caribbean is closed, some of the crowds that would have gone there redistribute to other attractions — but the overall park is often less crowded during refurbishment periods, meaning shorter waits across the board.

January-March refurbishment season is still worth visiting. Despite more closures, this is one of the least crowded times of year at Disneyland. Lower crowds, no summer heat, and easier dining reservations often outweigh the inconvenience of a few closed attractions.

Build a backup plan for each must-do. If Jungle Cruise is on your list and it’s closed, have an alternative in the same land ready — Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island or Indiana Jones Adventure in nearby Adventureland. A Plan B for every major ride prevents a closed attraction from derailing your day.

Use the Disneyland app to reroute in real time. If you arrive and find an attraction closed that wasn’t on the refurbishment calendar, the app shows current wait times across the park so you can quickly pivot to the next best thing.
