Hot, pillowy, dusted in powdered sugar, and shaped like Mickey Mouse — they are the kind of treat that pairs perfectly with a Mint Julep on a warm afternoon. There are two very different beignet experiences available in New Orleans Square and they are worth knowing apart before you visit.


Where to Get Beignets at Disneyland

Mint Julep Bar — The Classic Spot

The Mint Julep Bar is the original and most iconic beignet location at Disneyland. This is where you get the famous Mickey-shaped beignets — fried dough shaped like Mickey Mouse ears, served hot and dusted generously with powdered sugar. They come in 3-packs and 6-packs. A Mint Julep alongside is practically obligatory.

Mobile order is available here and is worth using. The Mint Julep Bar line can be long on busy days, particularly in the afternoon when the powdered-sugar smell draws in every passerby in New Orleans Square. Place your mobile order as soon as you get to the park and pick a time window that works for your touring plan.

One important tip: when you take your first bite, lean forward. The powdered sugar is generous and goes everywhere if you are not prepared. This is not optional advice.

Tiana’s Palace — The Filled Beignet

Tiana’s Palace, the quick-service restaurant that opened in September 2023 in honor of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, serves a different style of beignet entirely. These are not Mickey-shaped and not dusted with powdered sugar. Instead, they are single large beignets filled with Lemon Ice Box Pie filling and topped with a lemon glaze.

They are significantly sweeter and richer than the Mint Julep Bar beignets. If you love tart lemon desserts, they are excellent. If you prefer something lighter or less sweet, the Mint Julep Bar version is the better call. Value-wise, three Mickey beignets at the Mint Julep Bar cost about a dollar more than one lemon-filled beignet at Tiana’s Palace — for families the Mint Julep Bar is clearly the better deal.

Which Should You Get?

For a first visit: the Mint Julep Bar Mickey beignets. They are the classic experience, the better value, and the one that pairs with a Mint Julep for the full New Orleans Square afternoon. The Tiana’s Palace lemon beignet is worth trying on a second visit or if you specifically love lemon desserts.


Seasonal and Specialty Beignets

The Mint Julep Bar rotates seasonal beignet flavors throughout the year tied to park celebrations, holidays, and special events. These use the same Mickey-shaped base with different flavored powdered sugar coatings or dipping sauces. Recent and notable specialty flavors have included:

  • Pumpkin Spice — returns every Halloween Time season, one of the most popular seasonal variants
  • Pineapple — dusted with pineapple powdered sugar, a summer offering that pairs well with a Dole Whip float
  • Ube — dusted with ube powdered sugar, a vibrant purple seasonal option
  • Peppermint — appears during the Christmas season, sometimes paired with a Peppermint Bark dipping sauce
  • Tangy Apple — a fall seasonal offering
  • Banana — dusted with banana powdered sugar
  • Matcha — has appeared during Star Wars-themed special events in Dagobah-themed packaging
  • Hazelnut sauce — a dipping sauce variation that appears seasonally

Specialty event beignets also appear during Disneyland After Dark nights and other ticketed special events. These tend to be the most creative offerings, with unique shapes, flavors, and themed dipping sauces.


Gluten-Free Beignets at Disneyland

Gluten-free beignets are available at Disneyland. Guests with gluten allergies or celiac disease should contact the Disneyland Special Diets team in advance of their visit and mention the request when checking in at the restaurant. The gluten-free version uses a different batter and is prepared separately. It is best to arrange this ahead of time rather than requesting it day-of at the counter.


Tips for Getting the Best Beignets at Disneyland

Mobile order early. Place your Mint Julep Bar mobile order as soon as you enter the park and select a time window in the mid-morning or early afternoon. On busy days mobile order slots can sell out, particularly for popular seasonal flavors.

Eat them hot. Beignets are at their best within the first 5 minutes. The exterior is crispy and airy when fresh and softens quickly. If you can, eat them right at the pick-up area rather than carrying them around.

Lean forward when biting. Powdered sugar goes everywhere. Wear a dark shirt at your own risk.

Pair with a Mint Julep. The combination of hot Mickey beignets and a cold Mint Julep is one of the quintessential New Orleans Square experiences. Order both through mobile order at the Mint Julep Bar and sit at the outdoor tables in the patio area to enjoy them.

The 6-pack is better value for groups. At $9.99 for six versus $5.99 for three, the 6-pack is marginally cheaper per beignet and much better for sharing across a family.


Disneyland Mickey Beignet Copycat Recipe

You will need a Mickey Mouse-shaped cookie cutter or biscuit cutter for the authentic shape. The batter itself is a classic French beignet dough.

Ingredients (makes about 12 Mickey-shaped beignets):

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening or butter, softened
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar for dusting
  • Mickey Mouse cookie cutter

Instructions:

Combine warm water, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar in a large bowl. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add the remaining sugar, salt, beaten egg, and evaporated milk. Stir to combine. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until combined. Add the shortening and mix in. Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. The dough will be slightly sticky.

Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours until doubled in size.

Roll the risen dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut shapes using a Mickey Mouse cookie cutter. Re-roll scraps and cut more shapes.

Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy pot to 370°F. Fry beignets in batches of 2-3, about 1 to 1.5 minutes per side, until puffed and deep golden brown. Do not crowd the pot — they need room to puff up. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on paper towels.

Immediately dust generously with powdered sugar while still hot. Serve right away — beignets are best eaten fresh and hot within a few minutes of frying.

Tips: The dough needs the full rise time to develop flavor and the right airy texture. Rushing this step produces denser beignets. Keep the oil temperature steady at 370°F — too hot and they brown before cooking through, too cool and they absorb oil and become greasy. Dust with powdered sugar immediately after draining while the surface is still slightly damp from the oil, which helps the sugar stick evenly.

Seasonal pumpkin spice variation: Mix 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice into the powdered sugar before dusting for a Halloween Time version at home.
